Hello, I’m Shingo.

Shingo Ohno is a visual-based Creative Director from Japan, currently working at R/GA Singapore (which means I am Japanese but speak English). Before this, I accumulated my career for 13 years at Wieden+Kennedy Tokyo and worked at TYO Inc, one of the largest production companies in Japan.

I love coming up with ideas to solve problems in unexpected ways. I have the skills and experience to realize these ideas using the most appropriate (or perhaps the most inappropriate) technology and media. Please take a look at the Works page for more details.

As a byproduct, I have won over 50 domestic and international awards, including Cannes, The One Show, New York Festival, and London International Awards. (Please see below for details.)

Above is an overview, and I will provide a more in-depth introduction next.

I was born in Tokyo and majored in Graphic Design at Musashino Art University. After graduation, I joined TYO Inc, one of the largest production houses in Japan. There, I worked on various media productions including TV spots, music videos, websites, and large-scale videos.

In the 2000s, as a director, I focused on creating online campaigns centered around websites. Yes, it was the era of Flash. I was involved in various experimental website projects, such as sites that generate music automatically with each visit, a community site where over 100,000 people live in a cup noodle house, and an interactive remix music video. My clients included Sony, Casio, Honda, Toyota, and Nisshin etc, and the experience and ability to understand technology from that era still serve me well today.

In 2006, I worked three months at Unit 9, a sister company of TYO, through an Exchange Program.

I joined Wieden+Kennedy Tokyo in 2007, where I deeply pursued branding. Branding at W+K was not about “decorate” but about identifying the essence of a “brand truth” and expressing it in an impactful way. This approach is still ingrained in me.

At W+K, I worked on a wide variety of projects including TV commercials, websites, social networks, OOH, and events. I've even created some weird items such as instruments that produce sound when sneakers are bent, or devices that splash water to leeks when people tweet. Because we thought that was necessary. I have worked with clients like Nike, Google, IKEA, Spotify, Airbnb, PlayStation, Ben & Jerry's, and Oronine. Additionally, as a freelancer, I have also created educational programs for NHK.

Since 2021, I have been living in Singapore, working as a Creative Director at R/GA Singapore. I am constantly thinking about how I can offer new value in Singapore, a new place for me, while understanding the local culture and applying my experience in digital and branding that I cultivated in Japan.

Outside of work, I enjoy life by playing guitar while riding a two-wheeled skateboard, writing experimental calligraphy (such as endlessly writing "Ramen"), and exploring local food in Singapore.
